Mobile phone radiation ‘protects’ against Alzheimer’s

After all the concern over possible damage to health from using mobile phones, scientists have found a potential benefit from radiation. Their work has been carried out on mice, but it suggests mobiles might protect against Alzheimer’s. Florida scientists found that phone radiation actually protected the memories of mice programmed to get Alzheimer’s disease. They are now testing more frequencies to see if they can get better results. The study by the Florida Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centre is published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Sylvester Stallone broke neck :(

Hollywood hardman Sylvester Stallone said the fight scenes in his new movie were so realistic that he broke his neck during filming. Stallone stars in upcoming action film The Expendables, which boasts some of the acting world’s biggest tough guys, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke and British actor Jason Statham.

The 63-year-old said a fight scene with wrestling star Stone Cold Steve Austin became so ”vicious” that he needed an operation for a hairline fracture and had a metal plate inserted in his neck. Stallone, a writer and director on the testosterone-charged movie, told this month’s FHM Magazine: ”Man, it was seven guys, kicking each other’s ass, one guy tougher than the next.

SRK & Twitter, simply cherry on a cake

Shah Rukh Khan is a hit on Twitter. So is his imposter. The actor, who goes by the ID ‘iamsrk’ on the microblogging site, joined Twitter at 2:38 am on January 3, and the fake Shah Rukh followed up with the similar sounding ID ‘imsrk’ just an hour later, at 3:31 am.While the real Shah Rukh is amassing followers at a record speed, having a total of 41,890 followers so far, the fake ID is also garnering popularity, with over 3,190 followers already.

Interestingly, while Shah Rukh Khan follows 12 people, including actors Uday Chopra, Priyanka Chopra, Abhishek Bachchan and filmmaker Karan Johar, the fake one, only follows two — Johar, and The Onion, an American news source.

Apple’s App Store reaches 3 billion downloads

It looks as though 2010 is set to be as successful as 2009 for Apple’s iTunes App Store if the latest numbers are anything to go by as Apple announced today that users have downloaded 3 billion (yup, that’s billion) apps for their iPhone or iPod touch. Apple CEO Steve Jobs summed it up when he said: “Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months — this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before.”

“The revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”

Google Nexus launched

Google has launched the Google Nexus One, its first official mobile phone. Google unveiled the Nexus One at its Silicon Valley headquarters during a low-key event that was as hotly anticipated as any of Apple’s dramatic launches.
