Wikipedia comes in the top 5 sites. It is a biggest encyclopedia with highest online users. But now Wikipedia needs help. The Founder of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, appeals for donations to save the Wikipedia.

Troubled Wikipedia is asking for donation !

Wikipedia, a great name for net users & world’s largest and most popular encyclopedia, has recently asked for donation. Many users found it very strange, including me, because Wikipedia comes in top 5 sites of the world. They are asking for a donation with a tagline “Wikipedia is there when you need it, – now it needs you”.

“To people and technology. Even though Wikipedia and its sister projects are one of the top five most-visited websites in the world, we employ fewer than 35 people. Roughly half work on technology, a small team supports our public outreach and volunteer cultivation activities, and the remaining staff work in fundraising and administration. In addition, your support helps to pay for the technology infrastructure (servers and bandwidth) that keep Wikipedia running and growing. Fundamentally, the Wikimedia Foundation exists to support and grow the enormous network of volunteers who write and edit Wikipedia and its sister projects — more than 100,000 people around the world.” Says site owner of Wiki.
